SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Feb. 4, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Officials are investigating after the Salt Lake City Justice Courts were burglarized over the weekend.

Salt Lake City police officials confirmed the courts, at 333 S. 200 East, were burglarized and ransacked sometime between Friday night and Monday morning. Court employees discovered the damage when they came to work Monday.

Officials viewed surveillance footage and are seeking a person of interest who was caught on camera. Police have not yet released a description of that individual.

It’s not clear yet how the person gained access to the building, but police have confirmed a number of ceiling tiles were damaged. Furniture was also damaged and vending machine overturned, officials said. It does not appear at this stage that anything was taken from the building.

As of 10 a.m. Monday, court proceedings have resumed.

Gephardt Daily will have more on this developing story as information is made available.
