Police investigating West Valley City shooting death

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Nov. 20, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A 25-year-old man is dead after an early morning shooting in West Valley City Sunday.

The victim has been identified as Byron Williams of West Valley City, according to a news release from the West Valley City Police Department.

The news release said officers responded to a report that a person had been shot at 1821 W. Parkway Blvd. at approximately 2 a.m.

Police located a man outside of the apartment building who had suffered multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Officers quickly secured the scene and were able to identify and locate a suspect.

The suspect has been identified as Christopher Bonds, 26, of West Valley City. Police also recovered a handgun near the scene, after receiving information that Bonds tried to hide the weapon.

Bonds was booked into jail for on charges of first-degree felony murder, second-degree felony obstruction of justice, and third-degree felony possession of a firearm by a restricted person and felony discharge of a firearm.

Officers are continuing to investigate the events leading up to and the motive for the homicide.
