Police make arrest in death of Taylorsville teen

KEARNS, Utah, May 31, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Unified Police have made an arrest in the death of a Taylorsville teen.

Julian Garcia, 17, was last seen February 9, 2019.

Two weeks later, on February 27, officers located the teen’s body in a field near 5831 Plumbago Ave.

According to a statement by Unified Police Sgt. Melody Gray, investigators discovered Garcia had attended a party at the home of Kristina Theresa Valdez the night of his disappearance.

Police say marijuana and alcohol were present at the party and the intoxicated teen had been told to leave the residence in the early morning hours of February 10.

On May 30, an arrest warrant was issued for Valdez, and the Unified Police Violent Crimes Unit took her into custody.

Valdez, 38, was booked into the Salt Lake County Adult Detention Center on a variety of charges.
