WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Dec. 4, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A man and woman were taken into custody just before 9 p.m. Wednesday after West Valley City officials say they T-boned a car in a stolen vehicle, then fled police.
Sgt. Jake Hill, West Valley City Police Department, told Gephardt Daily that police were patrolling in the area of 1600 W. 3500 South. They observed a small sedan, which had been reported stolen from the same city, begin to leave a parking lot, and T-bone another vehicle, injuring a 40-year-old man inside.
The suspect vehicle then fled the scene without stopping, and police gave chase.
“After detectives saw that, after the car T-boned another vehicle and took off, that’s when detectives initiated pursuit,” Hill said.
The stolen vehicle had sustained damage in the collision.
“It was losing tires, and that’s one reason we pursued, because the car was going to be disabled,” Hill said. “Eventually, the car veered off the road, at 1300 West and 4700 South, and it crashed into a fence. Both occupants fled, one male and one female, both in their 20s.”
K-9s were used to track the suspects, who were found a short distance away, about 20 minutes after the incident began, Hill said.
“Both were taken into custody, and are still being questioned,” Hill said at about 10:40 p.m. “The driver is looking at felony charges, with possession of a stolen vehicle, fleeing police and the scene of an accident, having a firearm, and being a parole fugitive.
“The woman is probably facing misdemeanor charges, with fleeing, and she was found to have some drugs on her.”
Assisting agencies included the Sandy Police Department and Unified Police.
The couple had not yet been charged Wednesday night, so their names were not released.
Gephardt Daily will have more information as it becomes available.
The vehicle being described fits my stolen car. I would be interested in seeing a clip of the live report you folks did on this. Have you received any additional information. Please pass my deepest sympathy on to the driver of the car that got T-boned that evening, whether it was my car or not.
