WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, July 21, 2020 (Gephardt Daily) — A man who allegedly ran over his roommate twice with his car in West Valley City was “full of rage,” according to court documents.

The victim is identified in a probable cause statement from the 3rd District Court of Salt Lake County, and WVCPD spokeswoman Roxeanne Vainuku also confirmed to Gephardt Daily the deceased is Lewis Ricky Yates Jr., 50, who went by Ricky.

The probable cause statement said the suspect, Shamil Marcus Bikul, 40, is facing a charge of aggravated murder, a first-degree felony.

West Valley City police officers and detectives responded to a report of a man, later identified as Yates, who was hit by a car in the area of 3661 S. Market St. just before 7 p.m. Sunday.

“Patrol officers arrived on scene and confirmed that Ricky was deceased from his injuries,” the statement said. “Several witnesses witnessed a white four-door Nissan Sedan leave the scene. Video footage was gathered and showed a white Nissan Sedan strike Ricky while riding on his bike northbound on Market Street and dragging him without slowing down.”

The Nissan continued north and flipped a U-turn at the intersection of Market Street and 3650 South, then came back southbound.

“The Nissan traveled southbound at a high rate of speed going into the oncoming lane and deliberately striking Ricky again,” the statement said.

Through investigation and two witnesses identifying him, the suspect was located and identified as Bikul. After being read his Miranda rights, Bikul confessed to the crime, the statement said.

“Shamil deliberately ran over the deceased victim two times and told detectives that he is full of rage,” the statement said.

Bikul was transported to Salt Lake County Jail, where he is being held without bail.
