SOUTH SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Nov. 9, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A South Salt Lake City police officer was injured Wednesday night when a pickup truck suddenly turned into the path of his patrol car at 700 East near 2980 South.

South Salt Lake City Public Information Officer Gary Keller told Gephardt Daily the patrolman was driving southbound about 9:45 p.m. when the driver of a northbound pickup made a left-hand turn in front of him.

The two vehicles collided, sending the officer’s car careening into the front yard of a nearby home.

The officer, whose identity was not released, was slightly injured in the crash. He was taken to the hospital by ground ambulance to be checked out.

Keller said when medics arrived, they found the driver of the pickup lying outside his vehicle. It was unclear if he had been thrown from the truck or climbed out on his own. He was also taken to the hospital with what appeared to be non-life-threatening injuries.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.

  1. Hey there so you are missing a few facts about the Police officer injured in South Salt Lake crash on 700 east
I was the first on the seen when i got there the officer was stumbling out of his car
i grabbed him and holding him up i looked over at the truck that he hit and saw a body
by then my sister was by me i yelled at her to take the officer and sit him down i ran over to the body in witch was not moving the back right passenger side tire was on the individuals head i thought he was dead i then heard his voice to be sure i asked “can you hear me?” i heard it again i started yelling “I NEED HELP WE NEED TO LIFT THE TRUCK ITS ON HIS HEAD” two other men came over and we lifted the back end of the truck off his head we then kept him still until help came i kept asking where the Driver was and come to find out he was in fact the Driver as things calmed down as calm as they could be i looked in the truck and the guys left shoe was still in the truck I do not know how this man is alive and or the officer if it was any other car other then a cop care i think the person would be dead
I do have to say during all of this the office kept trying to help dazed and confused he wanted to make sure the driver of the truck was ok from what my sister told me when she was taking care of him he said “He matters more” my sister said “and so do you” the officer then was able to relax in my sisters arms and let me and the other do what we needed to tell help came
this office is a good man and onward his badge to protect and serve even when he was injured he has my respect i hope both men are doing well
