Police: Ogden man arrested on suspicion of sexual abuse of child

OGDEN, Utah, Dec. 23, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — An Ogden man was arrested Thursday for several counts of sex abuse, including sexual abuse of a child.

The Ogden Police Department, in a news release, stated that its Special Victims Unit detectives served a search warrant at the Ogden apartment of John Schneidewend at 2:30 p.m. on Dec. 22.

The news release further states that Schneidewend was taken into custody and booked for four counts of forcible sodomy, a first-degree felony; two counts of forcible sex abuse, a second-degree felony; and one count of sexual abuse of a child, a second-degree felony.

The sexual abuse allegations were reported Nov. 29 and involve relatives of Schneidewend, according to the release.

OPD said computers and cellphones seized from Schneidewend’s apartment are being examined at Intermountain West’s Regional Computer Forensics Laboratory. This part of the investigation is continuing and could result in additional criminal charges.
