WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Feb. 21, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A West Valley City Police officer performed a PIT maneuver Wednesday morning to stop a meandering SUV, and it turned out the that driver had suffered a medical emergency.

WVCPD spokeswoman Roxeanne Vainuku told Gephardt Daily the driver was first spotted at about 8:32 a.m. near Stansbury Elementary School, near 3050 S. 2700 West. The driver, in a white SUV, had crashed into another car, then became stuck in a snowbank.

Once his vehicle was freed, the driver fled the area, Vainuku said. He headed south on 2700 West, and crashed into vehicles four more times.

At 3700 South and 3200 West, an officer arrived and tried to pull over the driver, who continued a weaving path forward at about 15 miles per hour, occasionally veering toward oncoming traffic.

The officer turned on his siren to try to warn oncoming drivers, and as the impaired driver approached Valley Junior High and the 4100 South intersection, the WVCPD official performed a PIT maneuver, stopping the SUV near 3945 South and 3200 West.

Vainuku said the driver was found to have an emergency medical condition involving his brain. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment, she said. His condition is unknown.
