WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Jan. 11, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — At least a dozen police units responded to an officer’s request for backup after a fight broke out following a basketball game at Granger High School on Friday night.
Ben Horsley, spokesman for the Granite School District, said the incident, which started shortly after 9 p.m., began as a “minor skirmish between two female students.” The altercation was mostly verbal, he said.
A Granite district officer broke up the argument, and the female students left, Horsley told Gephardt Daily.
However, two males, who Horsley said are not Granger students, continued to harass the officer, to the point that the officer requested backup.
Horsley said at least a dozen units from West Valley and Unified police departments responded to the scene, at 3690 S. 3600 West, and the situation was quickly brought under control.
“The response was very quick — within just a few minutes it was over,” Horsley said, adding that it started out sounding much worse than it turned out to be.
The two male youths, who appeared to be minors, were taken into custody, and officials were investigating the incident later Friday night.
