ROY, Utah, April 13, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A Roy man has been taken into custody after police say he kidnapped his neighbors and assaulted them with a gun.

Matthew Gwynn, spokesman for Roy City Police Department, said calls came in at 3 p.m. Wednesday reporting shots fired in the area of 5750 South 2700 West.

Officers arrived and found both the suspect and one of the victims had left the scene.

During the investigation, police said Alvin Salima, 34, is reported to have taken one of his neighbors, an adult male, at gunpoint into his (Salima’s) house, believing someone had been tampering with his belongings. After assaulting the man, Salima left his residence to go to a home next door, and the first victim was able to escape.

While inside the neighbor’s house, Salima confronted additional occupants over the same accusations. Two people were able to run from the house but told witnesses Salima was still holding another individual at gunpoint.

At some point during the incident in the neighbor’s home, Salima is accused of hitting one of the men in the head with the gun. When he hit the man, the gun discharged, but no one was shot. The victim who was struck with the pistol ran from the scene, and has not been in touch with investigators, although he reportedly called a friend to say he was OK, and that friend contacted police with the message.

Police said the investigation is still ongoing, and they do believe drugs are involved.

Salima was booked into the Weber County Jail on charges of aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a restricted person and discharging a gun within city limits.
