SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, May 7, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — Salt Lake City Police detectives are investigating a shooting involving two men and an unsuspecting motorist early Saturday morning.

Salt Lake City Police Lt. James Tracy said the incident happened at 6:30 a.m. when a man was headed to work and realized he had left some tools at home, so he pulled onto Paxton Avenue from Main Street to make a U-turn.

“Two men in a white sports car pulled up behind him and blocked him in,” Tracy said. “The man felt threatened by their actions so he backed up and drove away, at which time the suspects fired at the victim’s car.”

Detectives discovered four shell casings at the scene and a couple of bullet holes in the vehicle, according to Tracy.

“Right now, their motive is pure speculation, and we do have video surveillance from neighboring businesses that show everything except for what led up to the incident,” Tracy said. “It’s possible they had something bigger on their minds, possibly a robbery, but right now we just don’t know.”

Tracy said the suspects are described as two black men in a white sports car, possibly a Ford Mustang.

Anyone with information that could help identify the suspects is asked to call Salt Lake Police at 801-799-3000.
