SARATOGA SPRINGS, Utah, April 23, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A Saratoga Springs man was arrested Easter Sunday after he allegedly beat, choked and threatened to kill his girlfriend.

A probable cause statement from Utah County said Christian Norman Robinson, 34, is facing charges of:

  • Aggravated assault that produces a loss of consciousness, a second-degree felony
  • Domestic violence in the presence of a child, two counts, a class B misdemeanor
  • Threat of violence accompanied by force or violence, a class B misdemeanor
  • Unlawful detention, a class B misdemeanor
  • Interruption/interference of a communication device, a class B misdemeanor
  • Criminal mischief, a class B misdemeanor

Officers responded to Hawk Drive in Saratoga Springs for a domestic violence incident Sunday at approximately 9:30 p.m.

“It was reported there was a fight going on between a male and female and the male was ‘beating her up pretty bad,'” the statement said. “Christian Robinson had been drinking and was upset due to an argument with his girlfriend. Christian was accusing her of cheating and the two were having a verbal argument about it.”

A female witness was in the room when the argument started and left the room along with two young children to get them out of the way.

“Christian then grabbed hold of his girlfriend’s throat with both hands and continued yelling at her while in the bathroom,” the statement said. “He also punched her in the face and told her he was going to kill her. She stated she saw stars and felt her throat crushing. This happened multiple times.”

Robinson also pushed the girlfriend into the bathroom door and broke the door. Officers found a hole in the door where the girlfriend said her head had hit it, the statement said. The girlfriend was able to get away and went into another bedroom where the other woman and the kids were.

She closed the door and told the other woman to give her a phone, the statement said. She then called 911 to report the incident. Robinson came to the door and kicked it open, breaking the lower door hinge away from the frame. He came into the room and saw the girlfriend was on the phone with 911. He grabbed the phone and took it away after saying “you’re calling the cops?” He then tried to break the phone but the other woman was able to get it away from him, the statement said.

“Christian then punched his girlfriend in the face multiple times, leaving her teeth and mouth bloody,” the statement said. “He choked her multiple times all while the children and the other woman were present. The other woman grabbed the kids and left the house to get them out of the way of harm.”

When the girlfriend came to the door to exit, Robinson stood in her way and would not let her leave the house, the statement said. After a short time he moved and she left the house, then jumped into the van along with the other woman and the kids.

The witness stated Robinson had also told her during the argument that he was going to kill her, the statement said.

The suspect stated none of this happened. He stated he was awoken by the girlfriend when she “jumped on him.” He became defensive due to his time in prison and “shoved the hell out of her,” the statement said.

Robinson is being held without bail in Utah County Jail.
