Police Seek Metro Gang Unit Top 10 Fugitive Who is Armed and Extremely Dangerous

SALT LAKE COUNTY, UTAH – August 26, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) – Unified Police Department is searching for a Metro Gang Unit Top 10 Fugitive and one of the UPD’s Most Wanted individuals, who is described as armed and extremely dangerous.

Stephen C. Hammer was observed by Macy’s loss prevention personnel selecting many items in the store at 4835 S. Highland Dr.,  Holladay and then walking out the doors without paying, on August 20 at around 12:20 p.m.  As loss prevention approached the suspect, he produced a handgun and pointed it at the loss prevention officer. The suspect was seen getting into a stolen white Ford F250, which was recovered two days later in Taylorsville.  The aggravated robbery incident was captured on surveillance cameras and several officers and detectives recognized the suspect as Hammer, 24.

Metro Gang Unit detectives located Hammer driving a vehicle in the Millcreek area at 4300 S. 1300 East, this morning at around 1:30 a.m. Hammer fled from officers after they had spiked his tires, ditching the vehicle in the area of the Turnberry Apartments and fleeing on foot.  He eluded capture last night and is still outstanding.

Hammer is armed and extremely dangerous.  He is listed as one of the Metro Gang Unit’s Top 10 fugitives as well as one of the Unified Police Department’s Most Wanted.  He is suspected in multiple burglaries, thefts, thefts of firearms and vehicle burglaries as well as the aggravated robbery and multiple fleeing charges.  He has been seen multiple times carrying a gun over the last few weeks.
