SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Jan. 18, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Police are asking for the public’s help finding a missing South Jordan man and his car after searching a possible crime scene and finding “very suspicious” evidence.

Missing since yesterday is South Jordan resident David Stokoe, 40. The last place he was known to be heading before his disappearance was an upstairs apartment near Princeton Avenue and 900 East in Salt Lake City. South Jordan police asked their Salt Lake City peers to help them do the check.

“We went into the address here, saw some stuff in there that was concerning to us. It’s highly suspicious,” said Detective Greg Wilking, Salt Lake City Police spokesman, at a hastily called news conference near the scene.

“We haven’t been able to make contact with David. We are concerned about his well- being.”

Wilking declined to share the nature of the evidence found.

“When we made entry, we saw things inside,” he told reporters. “I can’t disclose that information — what we saw — but it was very concerning to our investigators, and we are working in conjunction with South Jordan police right now. They’re on scene.”

Police shared a photo of Stokoe and another of a vehicle similar to the one he was known to drive. The missing man’s car is a 2015 white Cadillac Escalade, with Utah license plate F823HL.

“We’d like to locate him and his vehicle,” Wilking said.

“My understanding is the last time he was seen was yesterday. We were notified of his disappearance today. That led us out here, to this apartment.”

Because of the amount of time since Stokoe’s disappearance, he and the car could have traveled a significant distance, Wilking said.

“We would like to cast a large net around Utah and surrounding states, as well. His family was concerned. They want to know where he’s at.”

Anyone with information on Stokoe or his vehicle is asked to notify police at 801-799-3000.
