EVERETT, Mass., Sept. 2, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Police in Massachusetts said a man from South Weber struck and killed a pedestrian while driving a vehicle near Boston Friday night.
Officials said Sunday the 24-year old driver stayed at the scene of the crash, at of the crash on Route 16 in Everett, and no charges have been filed.
State police identified the victim of the crash as 62-year-old Francis Stamegna, of Melrose, which is in Middlesex County, Massachusetts.
Officials said Stamegna and a woman were running across the street against the lights at an intersection when they were struck by a westbound car driven by the Utah man, who had a green light.
The woman was not hit by the vehicle.
Stamegna was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Utah man involved in the crash has not been identified.
Could not stop in time? 19 pedestrians and cyclists will die today and every day in car-pedestrian/cyclist crashes mostly because of the flaws and inefficiencies of the right foot braking method which we are all forced to use when braking an electric or automatic vehicle, (poor reaction time and stopping distance – If this driver could have applied the brakes ¾ of a second sooner and stopped 40 feet shorter, would there have been a crash?) There is no scientific justification for the right foot braking method other than ’that’s the way it’s always been taught’! NHTSA and GHSA studied this issue and concluded that female drivers have the biggest problem with this braking method (and male drivers as well if the research had been completed). But instead of continuing to blame female drivers why are they not looking for a solution by testing this braking method against the much safer, simpler and more efficient Left Foot Braking Method? Perhaps ME TOO is not the only victim of a male systemic belief.
Pedestrian should pay attention to the lights. Being old doesn’t make you more important. Good riddance
