SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, May 24, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Salt Lake City Police detectives have booked the man accused of killing 15-year-old West High student Baleigh Bagshaw into jail in Utah after they say he confessed to murder.

Shaun French, 24, was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail Wednesday following his confession, the Salt Lake City Police Department said in a news release.

Detectives traveled to Otero County, Colorado, where the homicide suspect had been under arrest since May 9, and French was released to their custody. The detectives then transported him back to Utah, where he was booked.

French, who had already been identified as the only suspect, was booked on charges of aggravated murder and aggravated burglary, in addition to his outstanding warrants of unlawful sexual activity with a minor. The new charges stem from the homicide of Bagshaw, that occurred on May 7 at her home located at 1628 W. 500 South in Salt Lake.

This booking follows the over 250 staffing hours spent searching the Uinta County Landfill near Evanston, Wyoming, on May 15, that produced evidence related to the case.

Police responded to the landfill after tips that it should be checked.

French was arrested May 9 in La Junta, Colorado, after fleeing Salt Lake City and heading east.

Bagshaw was reportedly on the phone with her mother when she was attacked. Bagshaw had previously posted on social media that French was stalking her and trying to blackmail her.

French lived with Bagshaw and her family briefly, but was not a resident of the house at the time of the murder.

Further updates on the case will be handled by the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s office, police said.
