SANDY, Utah, Aug. 28, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Police took a 34-year-old woman into custody late Monday night after she fled a traffic stop — but not before she caused two accidents in her haste to avoid arrest.

Sandy Police Sgt. Jason Nielsen told Gephardt Daily the incident began at about 10:30 p.m. when an officer attempted to stop the woman for failure to yield on Newcastle Drive.

Instead of stopping, the woman kept going and, according to the pursuing officer, was throwing things out of her vehicle.

She struck two vehicles in two separate collisions, the second one at Highland Drive and Newcastle, according to the report. No one was injured in either crash.

Nielsen said the woman didn’t stop until she drove into a dead end at 2867 E. Newcastle, where police took her into custody.

Although the officer who followed the fleeing driver said she was tossing things from her vehicle, nothing was found on the road.

Nielsen said the investigation is still underway, and the unidentified woman was being screened for alcohol and/or drugs.
