Caretaker Falsely Arrested for Stealing Baby

Kidnapping Twist Mother Goes to Jail After Falsifying Police Report

Gonzales, Kaylea HSALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – April 7, 2015 (Gephardt Daily)

In a bizarre twist to a story we reported this morning, the mother of a baby girl who was thought to be abducted has been booked into Salt Lake County Jail.

The three-month-old baby girl was reunited with her mother, Kaylea Gonzales, after it was thought a distant relative took off with the infant Tuesday.

Tarnya Glover was taken into custody after police stopped the car she was driving, with the baby inside, in South Salt Lake near 3300 S. Main St.

Officials were called about the alleged abduction at a McDonald’s near 425
W. and 7200 S. at 11:44 a.m. and Glover was stopped about 50 minutes later.

Unified Police spokesman Justin Hoyal said, the mother had gone to pick up Glover, a distant relative, in West Valley, after Glover had called and asked for a ride. While the pair and the baby were driving around Midvale looking for the address that Glover wanted to go to, the mother stopped at the McDonald’s.

But police now say that after interviews were conducted with the mother and the relative who was originally reported to be the suspect, along with video surveillance, and other technology information that has been obtained, they found that the initial report was inaccurate.

child4“The child had been left in the care of the distant relative in the car at a different location than the McDonalds for an extended period of time,” said Hoyal in a press release.  “The relative left to run some errands and was on her way back when stopped by police.”

The relative, Tarnya Glover, is being released and will not be facing charges in this case.  The mother is being booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on outstanding warrants.  Charges will also be screened against the mother with the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office for filing a false police report.  The child will be released to a family member.”

The press release went on to say: “These cases are important for law enforcement to act in a timely manner to get a child returned safely when there has been a report of an abduction.  In this particular case, we were able to locate the child quickly with the initial information we were given and re-unite her with her mother.”
