WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Dec. 24, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Three people escaped serious injury Monday morning when their vehicles collided on State Route 201.

The incident happened at approximately 11:40 a.m. at about 5300 West, according to a Utah Highway Patrol news release.

A vehicle heading west on SR-201 “drifted to the right into the emergency lane for an unknown reason. The vehicle over corrected and veered left across the travel lanes,” the news release states.

“A second vehicle was unable to avoid the first vehicle and a collision occurred.”

The vehicle that went out of control was occupied by a male driver and a pregnant female passenger. The female passenger was transported to University of Utah Medical Center as a precaution.

The only occupant of the second vehicle, the female driver, was not injured.

SR-201 was cleared and open within about 90 minutes, UHP said.

The news release ends with some advice for people out on the road this holiday season:

“Utah Highway Patrol would like to remind drivers that everyone wants to get home for the holidays. We all need to be patient, focus on our driving and be sure we are leaving enough following distance while traveling at an appropriate speed for the conditions.”
