Prepare for winter storm, hazardous road conditions this weekend

SALT LAKE CITY, Dec. 23, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — The National Weather Service, Utah Department of Transportation and Utah Highway Patrol are warning anyone who will be traveling this weekend to plan ahead and slow down on the road. The Wasatch Front is under a winter storm warning.

The National Weather Service issued the following notice:

“A major winter storm will impact holiday travel across Utah (Friday night) into Sunday. Winter driving conditions can be expected across all mountain routes tonight into Saturday afternoon. Starting Saturday evening, all valley and mountain routes will be impacted, with winter driving conditions expected for all areas including the St. George area. Worsening road conditions Saturday evening can be expected for the Wasatch Front and I-15 corridor, continuing into Sunday. Plan travel now!”

UDOT announced that restrictions are in place for Big and Little Cottonwood canyons, with 4X4s/chains required. Also for US-89/91 Sardine Summit, 4×4, chains or snow tires required. For information about road conditions across the state, check with UDOT here.
