RICHFIELD, Utah, June 1, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — The Central Utah Fire Interagency and the U.S. Forest Service have announced a prescribed burn set for Saturday and Sunday in the Monroe Mountains.
It is part of the Monroe Mountain Aspen Ecosystems Restoration project. The burn will be in Fishlake National Forest.
The burn is planned to improve forest health and wildlife habitat, the Central Utah Fire Interagency statement says. Fire managers expect to burn about 1,800 acres of mountain brush, aspen and mixed conifers in the Wasatch Basin, near Signal Peak.
Fishlake National Forest, in south-central Utah, encompasses 1.5 million acres in Beaver, Garfield, Iron, Juab, Millard, Piute, Sanpete, Sevier and Wayne counties, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
People who see the smoke do not need to report it as a possible wildfire, since it is planned.
