PROVO, Utah, Sept. 11, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A Provo man has been charged with attempted murder after he slashed another man’s throat with a box cutter during an altercation.

Provo Police Department said in a news release on Facebook that officials responded to the argument near 1100 S. University Ave. at approximately 8:45 p.m. Friday.

The news release said the argument between the suspect, Corwin Daniel Smith, and the victim, Steven Gashler, escalated quickly and became physical.

“Investigators believe Smith became enraged because Gashler disrespected him,” the news release said. “Smith then threatened to cut Gashler’s throat with a box cutter and did so.”

Officers located Smith, who was still in possession of the box cutter. He was arrested and charged with attempted murder.

Gashler was treated at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center for his injury, and has since been released.
