PROVO, Utah, Jan. 9, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Provo Police officials have identified the man who kept officers at bay for multiple hours Wednesday afternoon.

The man who reportedly barricaded himself in his apartment, causing SWAT teams to be called in, has been identified as Rory Scott Dean, 59.

Officials learned the location of Dean, who was wanted on felony warrants, and responded at about 1 p.m. to an apartment in the area of 300 N. Freedom Blvd.

Dean refused to open the door. The area was blocked off while police negotiated, and ultimately Dean was taken into custody without incident on Wednesday evening.

“The warrants were four counts of sexual battery, which are misdemeanor B and two counts of object rape, which are both first-degree felonies,” a Provo Police statement says.

Dean has been booked into the Utah County Jail on those initial charges.
