PROVO, Utah, July 22, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — Provo police are mourning the loss of an officer who served for 26 years before retiring.
“This morning, one of Provo Police Department’s finest officers, Todd Grossgebauer, passed away,” said a Facebook post from Provo PD. “Todd was with the Provo Police Department for 26 years before his retirement from Provo in 2019. During his time with us, he served as a school resource officer, gang officer, narcotics officer, warrants officer, robbery/homicide detective sergeant, patrol division watch commander, and served as the lieutenant and later the captain in the Operational Support Services Division and Special Operations Division.”
Grossgebauer was a member of the METRO SWAT Team for 23 years, 10 of those years as its commander. He was an instructor at the Utah Valley University Law Enforcement Academy and trained hundreds of new officers across the state, the post said.
“Todd Grossgebauer had many successes in his career as an officer, but even more as a person,” the post added. “He was a gentleman, a tough guy, a man of honor, a scholar, and a brother to all his police family. He truly was loved by all. He has left a mark and a legacy that people aspire to create. We will truly miss him and wish his family all the love and support.”
Orem Police Department also posted on Facebook:
“This morning the Orem Police Department lost a true brother in Todd Grossgebauer, who passed away after a battle with cancer. Captain Grossgebauer was a significant instructor at the UVU Police Academy, where the vast majority of our department, from the chief all the way to our newest officers were taught by him. Todd was also the SWAT commander for the Provo/Orem/BYU Metro team for many, many years. His influence runs very deep in our department, and we mourn his loss.”
