Man drowns trying to save child in East Canyon Reservoir

MORGAN COUNTY, Utah, Aug. 13, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — The body of a 34-year-man who drowned in East Canyon Reservoir was recovered at about 9 p.m. Saturday in the general area where he was last seen earlier in the evening.

State Parks Lt. Eric Stucki said the man had been fishing with his girlfriend and her children early Saturday evening when one of the children went out on the water. When the child began struggling, the man swam out to help, as did the mother and another child. The mother and the two children made it back safely, but the man did not.

Officials have identified the man as Ismael Segundo, of Salt Lake County.

Stucki said Segundo’s body was recovered about 20 feet offshore, in 20 to 30 feet of water, and was taken to the Morgan County Sheriff’s medical examiner.

Weber County Sheriff’s Office, Morgan Sheriff’s Office, State Parks and the Department of Public Safety participated in the recovery effort. Stucki also praised the dedication of the volunteers who assist in these efforts.
