GRANTSVILLE, Utah, July 27, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — A body believed to be that of a man suspected of drowning Thursday night at Grantsville Reservoir was found Saturday evening.
Emergency dispatchers received a call at 7:40 p.m. Saturday from a person at the reservoir who said they found an unresponsive man in the water at the reservoir, according to Jon Smith, public information officer with the North Tooele Fire District.
The body is believed to be the man who went missing Thursday night, Smith said.
Emergency dispatchers received a call about 9:30 p.m. Thursday from a man who was swimming with another man but lost sight of him. North Tooele fire officials said the man was too far from shore and unable to get back.
Rescue crews and dive teams searched for the man until about 3:30 a.m. Friday, then resumed the search Friday morning and again Saturday.
“Unfortunately, we were unsuccessful in locating and recovering his body,” the Tooele County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release Saturday.
The reservoir reopened to the public Saturday, and the body was found by a swimmer that evening. North Tooele fire crews and the sheriff’s office responded to recover the body.
Officials said the man was in his late-20s, though no other information about him was immediately available.
