SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Feb. 20, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — The Republican National Committee has announced a debate between the GOP presidential candidates will be held in Salt Lake City on Monday, March 21. The debate would come just one day before voters caucus in the state.
It will be the first time a presidential debate has been held in Utah, according to the state’s Republican Party.
Utah Governor Gary Herbert said the Utah Republican Party should be congratulated for its efforts to bring a debate to the state.
“We are excited to welcome the Republican Party to Utah at such a critical time in the nominating process,” Herbert said.
Utah Republican Party President James Evans said he expects the debate to draw three or four of the GOP candidates still in the race at that point. As of the South Carolina primary on Saturday, the frontrunners were Donald Trump, Sen. Ted Cruz and Sen. Marco Rubio.
Details of the debate time and place will be determined by the Republican National Committee. Information on the debate ticketing process will be posted sometime next week on utah.gop, Evans said.
