WEST JORDAN, Utah, Nov. 10, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — Unified Police are investigating after an Officer Involved Critical Incident overnight in West Jordan.
A West Jordan Police officer shot a man who was armed with a knife, after the man saw police and retreated into his residence, which had multiple children inside.
Dispatch was alerted to a report of an armed suicidal man at 1:35 a.m. Sunday. Police responded to the area of Kokopelli Drive and Hoyle Circle.
“When our officers arrived, they met the individual at the front door. He was carrying an edged weapon,” West Jordan PD Sgt. Andrew Hercules told Gephardt Daily.
“When the individual saw police officers, he turned and ran inside the house. Officers were aware that children were inside of the house. We had one officer fire at the subject.”
The subject, shot one or more times, was transported to an area hospital by ground ambulance and is reported to be in stable condition, Hercules said. In keeping with Officer Involved Critical Incident protocol, another agency, Unified Police, was brought in to conduct the investigation.
Hercules said he believed there were no other injuries, but said UPD would be investigating any additional details.
Gephardt Daily will have more information as the investigation develops.
