CACHE COUNTY, Utah, July 30, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A Richmond man is dead Saturday evening after his motorcycle ran into the back of a truck pulling a flatbed trailer near the Utah-Idaho border.

Mario Mainini, 31, struck the back of the trailer at about 6:21 p.m. on U.S. 91 near mile marker 45. The truck and trailer had stopped in the inner of two southbound lanes, waiting to make a turn.

Mainini apparently did not see the stopped vehicle, and “… never slowed or brakes before striking the back of the trailer and ejecting him from his motorcycle and causing his helmet to come off,” said a statement released by the Utah Highway Patrol. “It was obvious that the motorcyclist had been killed on impact.”

An Idaho State Police trooper arrived and secured the scene until UHP officials arrived, the statement said.

“The investigation is continuing as to the speed of the motorcyclist and why he ran into the obviously stopped vehicle,” the UHP statement said.
