RIVERTON, Utah, June 10, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A Riverton man was arrested after allegedly holding his ex-girlfriend hostage for three days, and “attacking her” on each of those days, twice choking her until she passed out.
A probable cause statement from the 3rd District Court of Salt Lake County said Rafael Castro, 31, is facing charges of aggravated assault producing a loss of consciousness, a second-degree felony; violating a protective order in a domestic violence case, a class A misdemeanor; and assault/unlawful force/violence bodily injury/risk of injury, a class B misdemeanor.
The arresting officer wrote in the probable cause statement that she was dispatched to a delayed domestic violence report that occurred at an address in Riverton on June 5 just before 8:35 a.m.
The woman said she was attacked by her ex-boyfriend, Rafael Castro, the statement said.
“The victim stated she called Rafael to come pick her up since she had a fight with her family,” the statement said. “The victim said everything was going OK until Rafael got upset for no reason. The victim said Rafael started to hit her and knocked her out.”
The victim said she was held by Rafael for three days at his house and was “attacked all three days,” the statement said.
“The victim said Rafael hit her in the face giving her two black eyes,” the arresting officer wrote. “I noticed bruising on her face/arms/ neck.”
After three days, she was able to talk Castro into taking her home, the statement said.
“When they got to her house Rafael flipped out again, she got out of the car,” the statement said. “Rafael took off out of the neighborhood, wrecking his car.”
The victim said she has a protective order and is scared Castro is going to kill her one day, the statement said.
The suspect was transported to the Salt Lake County Jail with his bail set at $13,020.
