WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah, Feb. 3, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A driver ended up being taken to the hospital Friday evening after his SUV hit a car that was stopped in a left-turn lane with enough impact to bump that car into the minivan in front of it.

West Valley City Police Lt. Blair Barfuss said the accident occurred at about 6:15 p.m., on 5600 West near 3250 South, when the SUV hit the other vehicles from behind and rolled onto its passenger side.

Barfuss said the driver was taken to the hospital with some cuts to his face, but his injuries weren’t serious, and he was transported only as a precaution.

Two passengers were in the SUV that caused the accident, and one person was in the car that was initially hit. The minivan had three or four people in it, but it was the first vehicle in the turning lane and was only bumped from behind, Barfuss said. Everyone was treated at the scene by fire personnel.

Officers went to the hospital to evaluate the SUV’s driver and to determine what caused him to hit the car in the turning lane.

Lt. Barfuss said, “5600 West is really crowded, with heavy traffic. There were no witnesses. Sometimes people are looking down at their cellphones or are otherwise distracted.”
