SUNSET, Utah, May 31, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — The Utah Highway Patrol has identified two people killed Tuesday night in a rollover accident on Interstate 15 near Sunset.

David A. Solis, 28 and Stephanie M. Mendina-Gomez, 22, both of Ogden, were killed in the accident, which happened at 7:43 p.m. on southbound I-15 near mile post 337. A toddler who was in the car is still alive.

UHP Sgt. Mike McKay told Gephardt Daily witnesses reported that the car, a GMC Envoy, was weaving in and out of traffic at a high rate of speed. The driver apparently lost control and drove into the grassy median. The car rolled, ejecting Solis, Mendina-Gomez and a small child, approximately 2 years old.

Officers are not certain who was driving, but evidence on the scene suggests it was the man. It appears none of the occupants were restrained.

Mendina-Gomez died at the scene. Solis was transported by ground ambulance, in critical condition, to a hospital, where he later died.

The child, in critical condition, was taken to a hospital by medical helicopter. No condition update is available, but the toddler is expected to live.

Police are investigating impairment due to controlled substances as a possible factor in the accident.
