ROY, Utah, March 11, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — Roy City police are searching for a suspect who fled after a car crash in the early hours of Monday morning.

Dustin Wayne Smith is wanted for evading, possession of stolen property and leaving the scene of an injury accident, said a Facebook post from Roy City Police Department.

At about 1 a.m., Roy officers attempted to make a traffic stop on a silver Nissan Sentra, the post said. The vehicle fled and shortly after crashed in the area of 2500 W. 4400 South.

“The three occupants of the vehicle fled on foot, two occupants of the vehicle were taken into custody shortly after,” the post said. “The third male, reported to be the driver, could not be located and at the time of this post was still at large.”

The driver, identified as Smith, is believed to be an active gang member and possibly injured from the crash.

The on-duty Sergeant requested dispatch alert homes surrounding 2500 W. 4400 South, by reverse 911, to lock their doors. Residents were asked to call 911 if they observed any suspicious persons.

“At this time we do not believe there is any danger to the general public,” the Facebook post said. “We are encouraging residents in the area to go about their normal activities but report any suspicious activity.”

The Nissan was found to have been stolen out of Sandy.

It’s believed Smith is wearing all black. Anyone who has information about the suspect’s whereabouts is asked to call 911 or non-emergency dispatch 801-629-8221. The reference number in this case is #19RO4434.

“Dustin, if you follow our page and see this, please call 911 and we will provide you free transportation to Weber County Jail,” the post added.
