SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Feb. 6, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A man who barricaded himself into a recreational vehicle stopped on Interstate 215 Saturday after Utah Highway Patrol troopers knocked on the door has been identified.

Utah Highway Patrol Lt. Jeff Nigbur said a call came in at about 2:30 p.m. Saturday alerting the UHP to the stopped Winnebago. The tow truck driver who called reportedly said there were four males and several females inside.

The RV had stopped near mile post 21 southbound, close to 1000 South.

When officers approached the RV, a male occupant refused to open the door all the way, and was seen to be holding a knife, according to UHP reports. The man then barricaded himself into the vehicle. There was communication with the male through a window and the male identified himself as 40-year-old Demetrius Greene from Salt Lake City.

Greene was discovered to be registered sex offender with a lengthy criminal record, and the RV was unregistered. A SWAT team was called in.

Once Greene saw all the law enforcement officers, he came out of the vehicle, Nigbur said.

No other occupants were found inside. Officers are uncertain if the other people reported were never in the RV or if they had left before the UHP arrived.

The roadway was partially closed during the incident to ensure the public’s safety until the situation was resolved.

Greene has a suspended driver’s license and the motor home was not registered. Greene was later booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on multiple charges.

The State Bureau of Investigation is conducting an investigation into this incident.
