SOUTH JORDAN, Utah, April 1, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A South Jordan man is in critical condition after falling nearly 75 feet while out for a bike ride Friday afternoon.
According to a special Facebook page his wife, Stephanie, has started, Matthew Ballard and a friend decided to enjoy the nice weather by going dirt-biking in Eagle Mountain.
At one point, they were going up a hill near Tooele, when Matthew’s bike hit a rock and sent him flying about 75 feet to a rock quarry below. In the Facebook post, his wife said he bounced more than once as he fell, which caused severe internal injuries in addition to broken bones.
She said he was wearing a lot of protective gear, but, “Unfortunately man sized boulders were enough to allow him to break and shatter bones in several different places and cause lacerations to his lung, kidney, spleen, liver, small and large intestine.”
A sister-in-law has established a Gofundme account for the father of six to help the family with medical expenses.
Gephardt Daily will provide more information as it becomes available.
