SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, July 7, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall and project partners on Wednesday celebrated the completion of the new Three Creeks Confluence Park in the west side Glendale neighborhood.

The park is located at 950 West and 1300 South where Red Butte Creek, Emigration Creek, and Parleys Creek join the Jordan River.

“This new one-acre urban open space not only highlights these forgotten streams that flow within our city but more importantly it provides an accessible, safe and vibrant gathering place for our residents on the westside and beyond to explore and enjoy,” Mendenhall said.

Before construction started, the confluence of the three tributaries was enclosed in two large concrete box culverts and then paved over with a dead-end segment of road, according to a city news release.

“The site now features a restored creek channel as it flows into its confluence with the Jordan River,” the news release said. “It includes native plants and trees and improved user access to the river. Two new pedestrian bridges along with wayfinding signage also offer residents better access to this unique area along the city’s largest multi-use urban trail, the Jordan River Parkway.”

One of the new bridges is lined with 20 pieces of public art that were selected by Salt Lake City’s Art Design Board from over 160 proposals. Many of the designs speak to Salt Lake City’s waterways, the natural life they support, and the communities that live in the Glendale neighborhood.

In May the city completed the construction of three new boat ramps for non-motorized watercrafts to make getting in and out of the river much easier. These projects are part of the city’s ongoing efforts and commitment to further expand and create more equitable, inclusive and safe recreational opportunities in the area, the news release said.

The Seven Canyons Trust, a partner in the project, will be hosting a community celebration Friday, July 9 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on site at Three Creeks Confluence Park. Guests can enjoy live music, food trucks, and more.
