SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, May 23, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — The Salt Lake County Health Department has closed an eatery on Redwood Road after finding cockroaches in all stages of life, as well as a lack of sanitation.
African Restaurant and Market, at 1878 S. Redwood Road, was also cited for dirty floors and litter, including a toilet, around its left-open dumpsters.
Here is a full list of 19 violations the Health Department found:
- There are live cockroaches of varying size, including nymphs, in the establishment.
- There is no bleach or other sanitizer in the facility.
- Dishes are not being sanitized after cleaning.
- There is no sanitizer test kit available.
- There is no probe thermometer with range of zero-220 degrees Fahrenheit available.
- There is no mop sink in the facility.
- There is no certified food safety manager registered with Salt Lake County Health Department or employed at the facility.
- Not all food employees have current food handler card.
- Reach-in cooler gaskets are dirty.
- The floor/wall junctures lack coverings in various areas.
- Various floor surfaces are damaged.
- Cabinetry is not smooth, easily cleanable, and non-absorbent.
- Shoes are on shelf next to rice.
- The floor is dirty beneath cooking equipment.
- Domestic-style refrigerator is not durable for commercial use.
- Non-functional equipment is stored on the premises (two domestic fridges and a dishwasher).
- Dumpster lids are left open.
- The dumpster area is not maintained clear. There is litter, including a toilet, on the ground around the dumpster.
- The women’s room lacks a covered waste receptacle.
To reopen, African must correct all violations, pass a new inspection, and meet all safety and health requirements.
Funny how I have never seen all violations listed EVER until it’s “Afrikan” lmao…. poop sushi, I mean I chic an sushi had over 30 health violations and we heard of maybe 5 or 6 violations. Lol…… ????????????
