SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Dec. 13, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — A Salt Lake City firefighter barely escaped serious injury late Wednesday night after the floor partially collapsed beneath him during a two-alarm business blaze.

The fire broke out at Will’s Automotive at 945 South 300 West around 11:50 p.m.

When firefighters arrived, they found thick smoke pouring from the second-story windows.

A second alarm was called, and firefighters began knocking down the flames.

Fire crews had made their way into the building when a floor gave way beneath one of them. The firefighter managed to catch himself and was pulled to safety by other members of the crew. He was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

The damage estimate is $100,000, the SLCFD says. There are indications the fire may be suspicious, and the department is looking for a person of interest.

Gephardt Daily will update the story as more information becomes available.
