SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Nov. 2, 2024 (Gephardt Daily) — The Salt Lake City Police Department says two of its officers were injured in overnight brawls involving up to 40 people.

According to an SLCPD PR Unit press release, the investigation started Friday about 11:28 p.m. when police responded to a bar fight near 1700 South Main Street.

The calls for help “resulted in a citywide response due to the number of people physically fighting each other and officers,” the SLCPD statement said.

As officers attempted to break up the slugfest “a secondary fight between several people” began outside the bar.

“While attempting to contain the incident and restore public safety, officers used oleoresin capsicum (OC spray)” and brought the melee under control.

“Two SLCPD officers were injured. Neither needed to go to the hospital,” the press release said.

In total, SLCPD officers arrested six people who were “to be transported to jail on various charges, including public intoxication and disorderly conduct.”

Those arrested were later identified by SLCPD as:

  • 23-year-old Carnation Foni
  • 32-year-old Chelzie Atoa
  • 32-year-old Telphi Asiata
  • 36-year-old Anastasia Asiata
  • 36-year-old Edwina Atoa
  • 38-year-old Lagi Fuiava

What triggered the fights remains under investigation.

Gephardt Daily will update the story as more information becomes available.
