At about 11 a.m. Tuesday, police were called to area of 300 E. Browning Ave., which is at about 1400 South, southwest of Liberty Park. Salgado was found shot, and died at the scene.

The SLCPD said in a news release Wednesday morning that Alvarez and Taylor met up with Salgado and his girlfriend outside of the city to purchase an item being sold online. The two men said they needed to get money from a location inside the city and were allowed to travel inside Salgado’s car.

The four traveled together into the city where the two suspects then attempted to rob the victim. A struggle ensued over a handgun one of the suspects produced.

Salgado was shot during the struggle over the gun. The suspects fled the area on foot.

“Our officers arrived on the scene, and got information that there were two suspects that fled the scene,” Detective Greg Wilking, SLCPD, said shortly after the shooting.

Officers learned the suspects had run southeast of the shooting scene, and searched the area with dogs.

Alvarez was identified after leaving his wallet behind in the vehicle.
