SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – November 19, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) ─ A veteran Salt Lake Police sergeant is resting at home after being hit and dragged by a pickup truck driven by a suspected car burglar.

The female sergeant, whose identity has not been released, was patrolling the area of 550 West and 100 South on foot Wednesday evening when she approached the suspicious vehicle.

A man was in the driver’s seat with the car door open. When the officer attempted to talk to the man, he threw the truck in reverse, hitting her with the open car door and dragging her several feet.

The search was still underway Thursday for the driver.

Meanwhile, the sergeant was able to drive herself to the hospital and was sent home to rest.

Since the officer was not in her vehicle before the incident and was not wearing a body camera, there is no video of the pick-up truck or license plate.

Police are asking local businesses to check for any possible surveillance tape of the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call Salt Lake police at 801-799-3000.
