SALT LAKE CITY,  Utah, March 6, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — A carjacking suspect is in custody Monday night after a cab was stolen at knifepoint.

According to Salt Lake City Police, the carjacking took place a little before 7:30 p.m. at 100 S. State St.

Apparently, the suspect hired the cab and, when he reached his destination, told the driver he had no money, according to SLCPD Lt. Craig Gleason.

Gleason said the driver told the suspect to get out of his cab, and that’s when the suspect pulled out a knife and told the driver, “No, you get out.” The driver complied and then called police.

Using the vehicle’s GPS to locate it, police quickly found the cab, Gleason said. An officer spotted it near The Road Home shelter and attempted to stop it, but the suspect fled, leading to a brief pursuit, which was terminated when the suspect turned into oncoming traffic on the freeway off ramp at 600 South.

The suspect then lost control of the cab and crashed into the concrete barrier alongside the ramp. Officers moved to take him into custody.

Gleason said two other people were in the cab when police moved in, and they quickly explained to officers that they had been passengers in the cab.

The suspect, Michael A. Stack, 28, was booked into Salt Lake County Jail for aggravated robbery, fleeing, kidnapping and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Both the westbound Interstate 80 and northbound Interstate 15 exits to 600 South were closed while officials sorted everything out and cleared the scene.

  2. You make the News so ugly and omit so many facts. I know this story I feel better than anyone else. I feel demonized . I wish there was a better forum for a rebuttle on a situation like this.
The story is not right . Close . But not what really happened.
