SALT LAKE CITY, Utah, Aug. 25, 2021 (Gephardt Daily) — Police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run accident that occurred early Wednesday morning at 861 E. 1300 South in Salt Lake City.

The vehicle involved is described as a 2018-2021 model silver or gray Ford Mustang.

Detective Marie Stewart, with the Salt Lake City Police Department, told Gephardt Daily the accident took place at 4:39 a.m.

A man, who had mental health issues, was lying in the dark street while his family members attempted to get him to come out of the roadway, Stewart said.

The vehicle struck the man and kept going.

Detective Stewart said the area is very dark, but it’s likely the driver knew they hit something, even if they didn’t know it was a person, and police are hoping the driver will come forward.

Anyone who has any information that may help with the investigation is asked to call SLCPD at 801-799-3000.
