SANDY, Utah, July 16, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Sandy Mayor Kurt Bradburn announced Monday that his choice for police chief is Deputy Chief William O’Neal, who has served as interim chief in the months since the previous chief was fired.
O’Neal was selected from more than 50 candidates nationwide.
“Interim Chief William O’Neal has served Sandy City for over 20 years and I am confident he is the best person to lead the Sandy Police Department,” said Bradburn.
“During the interview process, Chief O’Neal stood out for his innovative and forward-thinking ideas. He exemplified great leadership and has risen to the challenges placed on him as the Interim Police Chief. I look forward to working closely with him while I serve as Mayor.”
The City Council is scheduled to vote on whether to confirm O’Neal at its meeting on Tuesday.
If approved, O’Neal would replace former Chief Kevin Thacker, who was fired in April of this year after an investigation that found he improperly touched employees.
