SANDY, Utah, April 30, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — The Sandy Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a male who approached a young boy in a public restroom at the South Town Mall.

Sgt. Jason Nielsen, Sandy Police spokesman, said in a news release that the incident occurred Saturday at about 7 p.m., when “an unknown male approached a 9-year-old boy who was in a restroom at the South Town Mall.

“According to the statement from the victim, the unidentified male approached the boy, pulled down his pants, and exposed himself to the child. While his pants were down, the male told the child to ‘come closer.’ The child, however, got up and ran out of the bathroom,” the news release says.

The boy found his mother and pointed out the suspect to her. She took a photo of the suspect with her cellphone, but when she tried to take more photos, the man knocked her phone from her hands and pushed her to the ground.

The suspect then fled the mall and asked other shoppers to take him to the nearby Trax station.

According to the news release, he was last seen getting into a late model, black Ford Mustang.

He is described as 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, with dark hair, and appears to be in his early to mid-20s.

Anyone who recognizes the suspect or has any other information is asked to call Sandy Police Department at 801-568-7200 or call the anonymous tip line, 801-568-INFO.
