SANPETE COUNTY, Utah, Sept. 6, 2016 (Gephardt Daily) — A Sanpete man has been arrested after police found him hiding in the trunk of his own car following a pursuit.

A news release from the Sanpete County Sheriff’s Office said the incident took place on the night of Aug. 31, when officials received a report of a gunshot fired at the Norbest (formerly known as Moroni Feed) processing plant entry gate in the small town of Wales.

“Upon investigation it was discovered a security guard had fired at a vehicle that he claimed attempted to run over him,” the news release said. “The driver of the vehicle, Oscar Garcia, was a person known to security personnel and was not welcome on their property.”

Sheriff’s deputies were able to locate Garcia later in the Fairview area. While attempting to stop him, a pursuit ensued and was later terminated for safety reasons.

Garcia’s vehicle was later discovered again between Mt. Pleasant and Moroni. Garcia was found hiding in the trunk of his vehicle and was arrested on numerous charges, including felony evading and aggravated assault.

The case is still being investigated and will be referred to the county attorney’s office for screening.
