Police: Saratoga Springs Man Torches Parents’ House, Kills Three Pets
SARATOGA SPRINGS, UTAH – June 8, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) A Saratoga Springs man is in custody after allegedly lighting his parents’ house on fire.
According to city spokesperson Owen Jackson, Wesley Sayer, son of homeowners Greg and Kathleen Sayer, poured some sort of flammable liquid on the stairs and lit the structure on fire. “There is significant damage to the stairwell and a lot of smoke damage making the house uninhabitable and displacing the rest of the family,” Jackson said.
According to Jackson, the mom called police around 2:30 p.m. Monday to report that her son had set their house on fire. Fire and rescue crews responded to the scene and were able to contain the fire fairly quickly.
Several family members were home at the time but were able to escape without injury. Three of their pets, a rabbit and two cats died and a third cat was resuscitated and taken to a pet hospital.
Sayer has been arrested and charged with arson and is currently being held in the Utah County Jail.
The motive for setting the house on fire is unclear at this time.
The extent of the damage is also unknown. The investigation is ongoing.
