School Bus Accident Instigated by Drunk Driver

SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – August 21, 2015 (Gephardt Daily) –  Unified Police say an drunk driver caused a collision between another car and a school bus before taking off in his SUV Friday morning.

According to Unified Police Lt. Lex Bell, a school bus was stopped at 3167 S. 700 East and a small passenger car had yielded behind the bus when a SUV, driven Timothy Moon, 48, who was attempting to merge off another lane, hit the stopped vehicle. “The collision forced the smaller car to hit the bus in front of them causing quite a bit of damage,” said Bell. “Moon then took off north on 700 East.”

Bell said they put out an attempt to locate on the SUV and Salt Lake Police officers were able to spot him and pull him over around 465 S. 700 East within just a short amount of time.

There were two children on board the bus at the time of the incident but Bell said they were not injured. The driver of the small car involved has minor injuries.

According to Salt Lake County Sheriff, Moon has one prior conviction in Salt Lake for DUI in 2011 but is an alcohol restricted driver.

Moon’s BAC was .228, nearly three times the legal limit. He has been booked into the Salt Lake County Jail on misdemeanor charges of DUI, alcohol restricted persons and leaving the scene of an accident.
