LEHI, Utah, July 8, 2018 (Gephardt Daily) — Search and rescue teams have recovered the body of a 16-year-old male who died after jumping from a bridge into the Jordan River just after 11 p.m. Saturday night.

The teen has been identified as 16-year-old Cole Merrill, of Alpine.

Lehi Fire Department Battalion Chief Tim Robinson told Gephardt Daily that Merrill was with several others when he leapt from the old iron bridge at 3500 West and 1500 North and didn’t resurface.

Lehi Fire Department, Search and Rescue, Saratoga Springs Fire and Rescue and Utah Highway Patrol took part in an intensive search effort.

Merrill’s body was discovered about 1:02 a.m.

Robinson said other teens who were jumping from the bridge at the same time were being interviewed at the police station.

  1. That area is deceitfully dangerous to jump into there. You’d think because it’s not a fast moving big part of a river it’s not dangerous but it has a strong undertow in certain areas under the bridge I’ve been told. I hope they don’t take that bridge down because it’s historic, but probably should be fenced off. This isn’t the first drowning in that area…
