DUCHESNE, UTAH, Aug. 19, 2017 (Gephardt Daily) — Search teams in Duchesne County have discovered the body of a missing Vernal, Utah man.
According to Duchesne County Sheriff’s Lt. Jeremy Curry, it appeared Joseph Weyerman, 81, died when he fell about 300 feet while attempting to rappel down a cliff north of Reader Lakes.
Curry said searchers were unable to recover Weyerman’s body due to the steep, rugged terrain.
Members of the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team will go to attempt to retrieve Weyerman’s body Sunday, Curry said.
Weyerman was last heard from on Monday and was scheduled to return home Wednesday night.
“The sheriff would like to thank everyone who helped with the search and those who will now work to recover Mr. Weyerman’s body,” Curry said. “He also extends his sincere condolences to Mr. Weyerman’s family and friends.”
81 yrs old and still repelling down a mountain. Good for him; bet he died doing something he loved and I’d never do
He’s my hero
My husband, Calvin Dwain Hall, (also from Vernal), was a good friend of Joe’s. He passed away on Nov. 26th last year. Although they hadn’t seen each other for many years, I feel pretty sure that Dwain was there when Joe lost his life.
